Re: Langley Mill Pottery (Lovatt) - Derbyshire.
Do you think it's as late as that, dd? I've always felt it to be older, more in line with the first couple of decades of the 20thC, but that is based on nothing more than the 'feel' of it, if that makes sense.

It's certainly as tough as a Sergeant Major's boot leather.

With it being 1883+, what do you think the 4-10-62 could be?

Early Langley Mill Half Pint Princess Ware Creamer w/Pewter Lid QUestions
Hello Everyone!!
New to the Forum.
I have a few questions on the Bottom Markings of this Creamer.
1. What does the Cross and The Crescent or "C" signify?
2. Is this a 1903-1904 Piece since it doesn't have the Leadless Glaze Stamp?
3. It has crazing on the Inside, otherwise in excellent Condition. Any Idea of value?
Thank you for your reply.
Glad to be here!!

Re: Langley Mill Pottery (Lovatt) - Derbyshire.
Hi there, Mmm my specialist subject!
Princess ware was in production from 1903-c1930.
That particular Langley mill mark was in use 1903-c1930.
The kite mark was the turner's mark, in use 1905-1923.
I think it's a G, which is maybe the handler's mark though
it doesn't quite match the recorded one.
Various leadless glaze marks were used 1905-1931.
The particular age of any Princess ware is of little consequence, it's really
down to how well it's decorated, and the colours used.
Yours is quite a nice example, and with the original pewter lid.
Because it was in production for many years it is not rare, there are shelves
full of it in a local antique centre, but anyway we do not enter into valuing
items on the forum.

Most unususal. Can't say I've seen one before, and there is no reference or
picture in the book. All I can say is the mark was used from c1901-1933.
I would be guessing 1920s.
Very similar to the embossed oriental designs by Bretby pottery.

Langley Ware was a brand name of the Derbyshire pottery Lovatt & Lovatt started 1895. This piece is very high victorian and probably
produced circa 1900. Link is to a history of the pottery.
