The mark is the "Langle ware" mark used 1883-90.
impressed 23 is the shape/size code.
Impressed G is the decorator's mark.
Incised 23 is the glaze code (Salmon).
Other incised numbers are design/decoration codes.
The gold 4 is the gilder's mark.

These jardinieres were produced in large quantities at this time, and are fairly
common survivours, despite their age.

Langley Mill Pottery (Lovatt) - Derbyshire. - Page 6 Empty Unmarked vases - Lovatt, Langley Blossomware

Post by Evocative Vintage April 4th 2021, 7:51 am

Hello,

I have a pair of vases which look like Lovatt Langley Blossomware but there are no makers marks at all.
Are these seconds, copies or is there another reason why they would not have been stamped?

Thanks

No they are right, early 20thC, made in large quantites for several years.
Usually well marked, maybe made for a retailer who asked them not to be marked?

That's really helpful, thank you.

I am delighted to have found this forum - I have a few bits sitting on the shelf which I'd love to know more about.

Small Langley cram jug from the Lucerne range (if the sellers of this style on ebay are right).
This was 30p from a charity shop yesterday.

A small stoneware vase which has been carved (through slip) with poppies in a Japanese style. Height: 5". There are a few impressed marks but hard to make out. Anyone know the maker? Thanks

Found it. It's Langley Ware art pottery, made at the Langley Mill Pottery, Derbyshire around 1890. Buttercup pattern, incised slipware, possibly a design by Daisy Calvert?

This is the Loopy Langley mark, used 1896-1930, but the style, makes
it pre-1900. Unless monogrammed, the designer is difficult to attribute.

British, I think from the Langley Pottery, maybe the "Oakes Period", circa 1930's.
Any help appreciated, thanks.

Thanks Denby, I thought this would be one for you 👍
It is a little like the Denby electric blue with a touch of oxblood running through.
Great to have the name, many thanks again, much appreciated.

Langley Mill Pottery (Lovatt) - Derbyshire. - Page 6 Empty vintage langley mill drip glaze pot or planter

Post by benwilliams November 21st 2021, 5:13 pm

vintage langley mill drip glaze pot or planter
Unusual 4 handled pot.
Can’t see same online.
What is it ( it’s clearly been used as a planter or drip dish) ? And is there a code number
Usual Langley marks for Langley for 1931-1962 I think but glaze looks like 1930s Deco style.
One for you, Denby? Thanks.

I would suggest it's a bulb bowl. Langley, and Denby, both made them in large
numbers. It would be from the 1930s.

Lots of marks and England written in quite a unique font. Anyone recognise them?
