Re: Eeles family, Shepherds Well Pottery (Dorset)
It would not surprise me if it were David Eeles to be honest.

Re: Eeles family, Shepherds Well Pottery (Dorset)
Made between 1955 - 62 apparently
I spoke to his son Simon in the summer. David had quite a serious accident earlier last year and I'm not sure if he is still throwing or only decorating

Re: Eeles family, Shepherds Well Pottery (Dorset)
Seen a few more of his slipware birds and now pretty sure it's by David Eeles. The back is unusual, though. I suspect he's used a standard plate, which may be why it's unmarked.

Hi
This tea bowl has scraffito decoration on a stoneware body. The mark looks like SB, SE or GS . I would be grateful for any thoughts you may have on the potter.
Thanks

Re: Eeles family, Shepherds Well Pottery (Dorset)
I'm not an expert on the Eeles family but think it could be by Simon.

Re: Eeles family, Shepherds Well Pottery (Dorset)
I was thinking it might be Simon Eeles and llike you know am no expert on the family. However I do have a couple of David Eeles and last year bought a couple of pieces by Simon when I was in Somerset. I've never seen images of anything of his in the way this is decorated, the clay looks different and has a distinctive spiral finish to the base.
I may end up contacting Simon to see if it is his

A David Eeles vase from a charity shop today. In all these years I have only found a
couple of Eeeles family bits (they're in the attic somewhere).

Re: Eeles family, Shepherds Well Pottery (Dorset)
I have this pot by David Eeles. I actually think its a bit unbalanced - the foot being too large - BUT the colours are gorgeous & much more subtle than the photo implies.

Yes, their glazes are wonderful. That one has their Shepherd's Well mark which they don't seem to use anymore.

Bowl with 'pie crust edge' - Eeles Family, Shepherds Well Pottery
Hi
The stallholder I bought this from was unable to identify the potter. There is no mark and I don't recognise the style. So I'm asking you knowledgable lot for help.
19cms x6cms deep. The glaze on the top edge is greener than appears in the images. Apologies for lousy photos, the external decoration was very difficult to photograph ( darkish glaze and reflection)

Re: Eeles family, Shepherds Well Pottery (Dorset)
Yes. Found a Benjamin Eeles piece with the same folded rim and celadon glaze, and the decoration is typical Eeles.

Either David Eeles or Terry Godby when he was at Shepherds Well pottery. According to Simon Eeles

Re: Eeles family, Shepherds Well Pottery (Dorset)
Funny you should say that. I found one recently this shape which was decorated internally, and similar to another one by Benjamine Eeles. I'll move it to the Eeles thread in due course.
