Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)

Stoneware lidded pot with lovely running glaze, Made in England marked to base. It has an insert in the lid with a sponge in, any ideas what it was used for?

No idea personally, but that glaze looks sumptuous.

100% Denby, 1920s-30s.
Not an exact shape or glaze I've seen before, but almost certainly a tobacco jar,
they made many.
The lid is unusual, could be for "knocking" a pipe, like the knocker ash-trays.

I thought the base looked a bit Denby esque.

Many thanks denbydump - much appreciated.

A 1950s Denby Armchair pipe-rest. Done in many different colours, usually unmarked,
though occasionally H.O. for Hill-Ousten.

Never seen one of these before Denby. Interesting piece.

The "Pop singer" model, 1950s, 5 1/2 in high.
Exceptionally rare, and very easily damaged.
Purportedly modelled on Cliff Richard, but could be Elvis?
Also rumoured to have been withdrawn due to copyright issues.

Any idea how many of these were (the pop figure) produced Denby?

Lost in the mists of time, but this is only the second one I recall ever seeing.

I'll certainly be keeping my eyes peeled. Not because I like it, definitely not my cup of tea, but the rarity side of it appeals.
I would quite happily display the arm chair pipe rest, that looks charming.

Oddball small pot, just a trial, using a "Gay border" shape, so early 1950s.

I'm puzzled and Google isn't helping to unpuzzle me.
Any ideas?

There are several marks on Denby pottery like this that are unidentified.
Maybe a special order for a retailer or wholesaler, or a government dept.
Still waiting to find out what BULU stands for on the rare pumpkin jugs.

Not heard of it, but It certainly fits.

Notice none of these items ever have an actual Denby pottery mark.
