Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
I imagine the decorators were allowed to be "artistic" fairly often when there weren't specific orders to get out?

Yes, sure it is. I'm sure I've seem them before in other colours too.
No idea exactly what it's for though. Bath salts is a possibility,

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
I thought maybe for mustard or maybe something similar that is liable to ferment and blow off a normal lid?

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
They did make unmarked containers for many companies, for a variety of subtances.

Yes, called "festive" late 40s/early 50s, designed by Albert and Glyn, for export.
lidless pot - Denby Majolica tobacco jar
This poor pot has the most horrific crack going most of the way around it, I feel like one day I will lift the top half off entirely when I move it, however, I rescued it from certain death. Presumably there was a lid once? I can't find an example online so any suggestions would be grateful! Only 12cm high

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
This is a Denby Majolica tobacco jar missing it's lid and clamp.
Made for retailers they were rarely marked.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
I believe it’s a Donald Gilbert piece, like my jug

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
The other is "Blue cone", the first tablware range made by Denby in the 1930s.
Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Many thanks DD. I had heard of the name but never seen a piece - until now.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
I haven't seen one of these teapots, and there is no picture in the book, however
the plates and cups did have rows of grey dots as well as the flower, and as it has
the full backstamp I would say it's probably right.
Maybe not enough space on the little 3/4 pt teapot.

Could this be Denby? Denby Falstaff.
This small (4") footed mug and saucer have, according to my sister, a strong Denby vibe. Very dark blue, slight flecking and with a brown tinge. The printed mark was very difficult to photograph but has a look of a Denby mark possibly. Have done a search but not found anything
Grateful for any ideas. TIA
