Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Thanks Rob, we've been waiting decades to ID this mark! Never seen it before.
I wonder if it was a wholesaler or retailer?
If they were indeed made for export, it would explain why they are so rare.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Yes, pretty certain it is, though I can't say I've seen one before.
Post-war, and probably from one of those limited "reproduction" giftware ranges.
harking back to the early sprigged wares.

Have always thought that Glynn ware looks nice, and yours really is one of those! But it prompted me to look at Sold Prices on Ebay, and those are certainly not what they once were!

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Yes, but considering the work that went in to these, hand thrown and hand decorated,
they seem to have been made is vast quantities, and do seem to turn up regularly,
especially round here.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
A "Jacobean ware" basket thingy. Some wares are more obviously tube-lined than
others. The book says rare undocumented Albert Colledge c1948, However it's a 50s
mark, and there is a poodle dish, typical 1950s, and I'm sure I have a Glyn College
signed piece somewhere. I've always been a little suspicious of the name of this range.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
It is from a range of giftware/accessories for the Arabesque pattern, 1960s.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Thanks! I can't find any other pieces when I search the 'Arabesque' pattern online - is it rare? Do you have any idea what it might be worth?

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
It's not the Arabesque pattern per se, its an accessory range of planters,
bowls, ash trays etc. Don't think it had it's own name.
We don't enter into valuations sorry.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
I can't quite read the little label, does it say Denby?
Can't recall a majolica elephant, but it is not the standard elephant model,
done in various sizes and colours, which has it's trunk outstretched.
There are also Elephant bookends.
I would think it is a trial with that unusual glaze combination, I think I saw
another animal with a similar glaze in the Denby museum years ago.
