Re: Langley Mill Pottery (Lovatt) - Derbyshire.
Was not a mark I'd seen them use before, but looks like it's this one:
http://www.langleypotterysociety.co.uk/potmark03.html (1883-1891)
SP wins but I'm glad I wrote "possibly a touch earlier."

Lovatts Langley mill tobacco jar, c1920s
Heavy stoneware lidded jar, maybe for tobacco, with vivid blue glazed ground and geometric art deco frieze design.
Printed and impressed Made in England marks to base - no other identifying pottery mark that I can see...A mystery!

RE Big ed's Lovatts vase above
Known as "Windsor green" Introduced in 1937, but made during the 50s.
Also there are blue, yellow and shiny versions.
That mark was used c1940-1950.

This is from the Denby/Langley "Magnolia" range, MA323 Goblet.
Designed by Glyn College 1979.
You may find this range with either factory mark, but they were all made
in white clay at Langley Mill. Unmarked ones I suspect are seconds.

Nik wrote:Stoneware Vase 8" tall. No marks, with remains of old label.
This is "Fern" from a 3 colourway giftware range (others are "Moss" and "Bracken")
Designed by Mike Dobson & Fred Marriot in the late 1970s. Never marked, they
were all made at the Langley Mill pottery for Denby.

RE Bradbuty's post above.
They are from Langley Mill, (1883-1890). The mark is known as the "Langle ware" mark, often hard to read. The numbers etc. are shape/slipcolur/turners/decorators marks. These have had an accident in the firing, so didn't go on to be gilded as mine are.

Re: Langley Mill Pottery (Lovatt) - Derbyshire.
Hi there....Last post for the day here for me (LOL)
Thought I would post a very, very old piece of LOVATT, LANGLEY MILL POTTERY ( BLOSSOMWARE VASE ) marked. On Wikipedia it shows it there and states a date of 1923, Pattern Number # 2078. Gold highlights on it. I would never guess that this vase is almost (or is) a 100 years old.

...and to think I found this here in Canada....LOL

Re: Langley Mill Pottery (Lovatt) - Derbyshire.
A strange little miniature vase, with a paper label I've never seen before. c1954-63.
Re: Langley Mill Pottery (Lovatt) - Derbyshire.
During the 30s John Spencer was a designer for Langley Mill pottery, best known for
his sgraffito wares, usually decorative items but there were also domestic pieces,
usually in a shiny blue, like named storage jars, teapots etc.
He carried on the technique at Pearsons in the 1950s

Re: Langley Mill Pottery (Lovatt) - Derbyshire.
A very brief resume of some of the wording in the marks that
may be found on Langley Mill pottery.
Info taken from "Langley Mill pottery" ISBN 0 9542250 0 7
by John and Jennifer Giblin.
Even though the pottery was just in Derbyshire, the old border
being defined by the river Erewash, the word "Derbyshire"
never appears in any marks, however "Notts" appears on
and off, on marks up to c1913, so it may have been in the
Nottingham postal area at some time.
19th century.
James Calvert North Shipley pottery Langley Mills (sic)
near Nottingham.
J. Calvert & Son Langley Mill Notts.
Calvert & Lovatt Langley Mill near Nottingham.
The Art pottery Langley Mill Notts.
Langley Ware (many variations).
Lovatt & Lovatt.
Langley English fireproof.
20th century.
Langley Ware (many variations).
Lovatt & Lovatt, Lovatt, Lovatt's (many variations).
L&L Lovique ware.
Stoneware Lovatts England.
Langley combined with a windmill, (several variations).
After the takeover by Denby in 1959, the products could
be marked either as Denby or Langley until closure in 1982.

Re: Langley Mill Pottery (Lovatt) - Derbyshire.
Yes correct, it is a "daisy ware" tobacco jar, unfortunately missing the lid, and the
brass "spider" clamp, which was often over-tightened, which then cracked the lid.
A lot were made for retail tocacconists, so were unmarked, apart from "england".
